The article approaches learning how to understand mathematical problems for students of Secondary Basic. It offers didactic reflections to professors of that level, to drive the prosecution of the text of the problem, to translate it to the mathematical language and formulate it again convenient; they offer examples of tasks for not reinforcing the beliefs formed in the students on the resolution of problems. Those results systematize the experience of the authors in that teaching, theoretical studies carried out as professors of Didactics of the Mathematics and investigations advised students of the Degree in Education on the resolution of problems.
