This article is part of the activities developed within the framework of the research project "Knowledge and Acceptance of the Theory of Evolution in Ecuador: A Comparative Interregional Study," which focused on analyzing the integration of the theory of evolution into Ecuadorian educational curricula, considering its historical context, curricular approaches, challenges in teaching, and pedagogical perspectives. Through an interpretive-qualitative study, curriculum documents were examined, and interviews with experts were conducted to deepen and complement the analysis. The inquiry revealed progress in curricular approaches, moving from an emphasis on human interactions with the environment to a deeper understanding of natural and scientific processes, with the theory of evolution clearly integrated into the Ecuadorian curriculum in basic education, which was the focus of the review. The authors conclude that teaching reflects a commitment to promoting scientific and comprehensive education, although challenges persist due to the country's diverse cultural and religious perspectives.
