The portrait and the teaching of communication at the Universidad Michoacana, Mexico

Under proposals of sociosemiotics and critical discourse analysis, the portrait becomes a text-object: a means, an organism, susceptible of reading, and provider of meanings for the formation of communicators School of Letters at the Universidad Michoacana. This essay focuses on the way that Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, since their public appearance, took the portrait of their missing sons and daughters as one of their main tools. The socio-historical circumstances surrounding the portrait of the missing persons make it pass through a resemantization process; this procedure allows us to locate four semantic functions in the object-text: identitary, visible, historical and political.
