Abstract

Based on empirical and historical evidences and on theoretical inconsistencies, the authors were able to formulate the five main challenges in order to foster the learning process of the foreign language in the formation of English language teachers trainees in Cuban pedagogical universities: a comprehensive diagnosis centered on the specific factors of the foreign language, selection and structuring of the content according to the requirements of the communicative approach, formation and development of communicative skills in the foreign language with specific purposes, teaching and learning socio-cultural and socio-linguistics factors consciously, and using the techniques of information and communication effectively.
